OSS offers a Competitive Soccer program for players 10 years and older looking for a higher level of coaching and competition. Tryouts for OSS Competitive teams are held each Summer and teams are selected according to the rules outlined in the OSS Policies and Procedures.
OSS had 26 teams playing in the winter/spring 2015/16 season playing in the Rhode Island Super Liga, 1 of which is also playing in the Massachusetts Premier League (Maple). OSS teams also compete in the National Youth Soccer Championship Series (RI State Cup and RI Presidents Cup) and various tournaments in RI, MA and NH.
Ocean State has a core training curriculum that focuses on the development of technical skills at young ages to enable the player to compete at their highest potential and attain their personal goals.
Key highlights of the OSS Competitive Program :
Alliance with Bruno - beginning in fall 2015, this new alliance will provide top players the opportunity to play for a team competing in the NEP League (New England Premier); access to some Bruno training and scrimmages and player sharing as and when needed.
One team is currently participating in MAPLE (U14 Boys); in prior year as many as 4 teams have competed in MAPLE.
Top OSS teams to compete in Rhode Island State Cup tournament or Presidents Cup Region 1 Tournament.
Speed & Agility Training is provided by Higher Level.
Ocean State older competitive teams train at Wide World of Sports South from November to March
Ocean State is one of few RI clubs that own our fields, which are used exclusively for soccer
Five (5) OSS players have been crowned RI State Skills Champions in the past 2 years
The OSS Youth Academy is run under the leadership of a Coerver certified instructor
Additional technical training offered via our affiliation with Challenger Sports
Additional Goal Keeper training and Strength/Conditioning training also offered
