Ocean State Soccer President's Message

Now that the Spring soccer season is over, we can look forward to barbecues, summer vacations, and hopefully a little rest and relaxation.  Before you get too involved in summer vacation plans, we want to remind you that the Fall 2016 season will arrive before you know it, and planning must begin now!  OSSS is very excited to continue to provide high quality soccer programs for the youth of our community.

We would like to remind you of some key dates for the Fall 2016:

August 3rd                    Registration Deadline for Fall 2016 Recreation Program

           August 25th                 Recreation Coaches Meeting

September 10th           Opening Day for the Fall 2016 Season

In order to prepare for the season, we ask that you help us by registering your child early and no later than Aug 3rd to guarantee your child a spot on a team.  This allows us to form teams, assign coaches, and purchase uniforms in time for opening day.  Space fills up fast, so avoid being wait-listed.  Wait-listed players will be placed in the order received prior to the start of the season if there is room.  Any registration received after Aug 3rd will be assessed a $20 late fee per child. Please register now to ensure your child a position on a team and a chance to play!

Please register by going to www.oceanstatesoccer.org and selecting the “Recreation Program” tab at the top of the page. Please take a few moments to read through the Registration Instructions on the web site.

A couple of quick reminders regarding the Registration process:

  • Girls playing in U7-U12 age groups must indicate their preference for an all-girls team (All-girl’s teams will be formed if the numbers support it).
  • New: Age group placement is now based on the year your child was born.  For example, any child born in 2013 is considered to be in the “U4” soccer age group.
  • OSS provides for an optional “Request Box” in our registration form that allows you to request your child be placed with another player (one player only-not a coach please). We are one of the few youth organizations to offer such a request process but we cannot guarantee the request will be honored due to team balancing.

Coaches represent a critical volunteer group within our organization. We are always looking for energetic, enthusiastic coaches at all levels, so if you are interested, please contact our Development Director or our Registrar, Jenn Gallagher at .  You can sign up via our Coach Volunteer Link on our web site. There will be a mandatory Recreational Coaches Meeting on Thursday, August 25th at the Cold Spring Community Center.  We offer training classes and professional guidance for all Coaches each season.

An all-volunteer organization like OSSS simply could not exist without you! We ask for your continued support by selecting a volunteer category on the On Line form.  If you are interested in joining the Board of Directors, please email me at . If you would like to Sponsor a team or are aware of a business that would like to advertise at the field, please see the Sponsor Information and Sponsor Application forms on our web site. Look forward to seeing you this Fall

Sincerely,

John Montanaro
